Before submitting your pages to search engines, the most important task is to select the right keywords to get your website in search result. Keywords which will best way describe your site and which will bring visitors to your web page. you should be very careful about choosing right keyword. After you make your own list of keywords, ask your friends to give you their suggestions and feedback. Use a thesaurus or dictionary. Some words may make perfect sense to you but may not to others and vice versa. After you choose them, add plurals of the same keywords. Always try to use keyword phrases so they make sense when they are put together. The key to successful promotion through search engines is to have the right keywords implemented at all the right places on your Web Page.

Very true. But the keyword search should be done from visitors point of view. Try to use laymans words and phrases rather than very industry specific keywords. I am not saying that they should not be present on your site. But for pulling keywords you MUST have layman's keyword. If your site is very technical site meant for very techie people then use only technical words and try to avoid layman's words. That will prevent non-value generating traffic coming to your website.

If your site is new then first target less popular keywords, once you got good position for them then you should go for competition....
Slow but sturdy....
Choose such keywords which will represent your site. try to have prefixed and singular and plural forms of them...

Good and right keywords are most import but do not understand about making of own list of keywords and give to friend to evaluate it!? Confused
It is better to analyze keywords using overture or google keyword tool to get better impression what people use and which keywords they use it to find it.
After you have done that analyze then make keywords for your website and you do not need to give it any friend because there is not any better answer than analyzing keywords using overture. google keyword tool, wordtracker etc...
