Is it true that it is important to add sitemap to robots.txt now?

S ofcourse.. After adding my Sitemap file into the robots.txt file for my site I have noted a good increase in my web site traffic.
I have just added the following line of code into my robots.txt file thats it....now my site is topping in the google rank....

Sitemap: http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml
