Search engine optimisation (SEO) is one of the most cost-effective promotional tools available to businesses, an expert has asserted.
Richard Unwin, managing director of internet marketing agency Backbone IT Group, made his comments following suggestions that search engine specialists are a waste of funding.
"[SEO] is among the most cost-effective forms of promotion available," he continued, adding that it will be a shame if businesses lose out on custom by following such advice.
Andrew Clarke, head of SEO at Backbone IT Group, explained that search giant Google recognises the vital aid ethical optimisation firms supply to businesses.
Google does suggest that such consultants can be useful in offering advice on the site's layout and helping with content creation.
However, it warns that unethical SEO firms have used unfair methods to manipulate search results, creating a bad reputation for the industry.
Using such firms can result in a website being dropped from the search engine rankings altogether, it notes.
