Link the site which you are going to propose for link on your site. BEFORE you ask for a link in revisit and give the location of the link. It's harder to say no if you can give the URL of where their link is.

Give them the exact link text to use, even going so far as to put it in HTML so they can just cut/paste it onto their page. This is what people expect while doing link exchange.

Check whether the site have the links page or not.
