Many think creating a lot of blogs and linking back to your own site is Search Engine Spam. So where is the threshold limit when it comes to number of blogs that you own. It all depends on how much unique information you have in those blogs plus how well they are hosted and how many quality back links they have. If the blogs all have their own separate content and doesn't have spam links I would feel having even 100 blogs are still legit.
Blogs had been a driving force behind search engine optimization / search engine ranking for a long time so do what is good for you and your visitors instead of worrying too much about what search engines think about your website and your blogs.
