When logged into Google Webmaster Tools, and using a particular search
term, my site is in position 3 in Google. If I log out of Tools then
use the same search term, it drops to position 4.

Can anyone please explain this? Its not a huge issue, as I am of
course pleased with position 3 or 4, but I really am interested as to
why being logged into Tools should effect the Google positioning.

I can consistantly reproduce this effect, for other search terms.

Thanks

Personalization.

You've probably visited your site while logged in and Google remembers that you like that site so it gives it a boost in the rankings.
