Digg removes its controversial tool: "Shout", Monday, June 08, 2009

Digg, the popular social bookmarking site had utilized the feature of Shout. This allowed its users in order to share their links with one another and it was the only communication tool. Now the feature of Shouts is replaced with Facebook and Twitter.

Shout made it easier for users to send a story they liked the most directly to other people who employed Digg.In certain circumstances,it was very useful and it helped in some of the stories to catch more attention. On the other hand, shouts was mostly utilized for spamming due to which some users decide to turn it off.Another major problem with this feature was that those links, stories that received shouts were better rated .Due to this, all the users started shouting most of their stories.

Digg in the beginning tried to reduce the value of Shouts tool,in order to eliminate the above problems, but finally removed it completely. Now Digg had added buttons to enable sharing of stories on Facebook or on Twitter. This big move has a possibility of driving more people to Digg, though it enables people to drive people to other sites.

Enhancements in Digg, Wednesday, April 15, 2009

The social bookmarking site Digg has improved significantly. The main aim of digg is to deliver the best stories at the top of the results. In addition to the improved user interface, the following additional changes have been implemented:

1.A faceted model for filtering results means that it is possible to cut your results by factors like Digg count, topic, time, etc. It provides sufficent information about your query and enables you to drill down to your result much more effectively.

2.Advanced shortcuts enable those who are searching for stories with specific promotion characteristics to filter in an effective manner. Include +p to your query for only promoted stories, +u for upcoming stories, and +b for buried.

3.Widely used search tricks like putting your query in quotes for an exact match and adding a negative sign before the term (i.e., -term) to remove that term from your results is possible.

4.Digg has ensured that search is faster now too.

5.A graph depicting the relative number of search results by month for the past several years provides some visibility into the trend of a particular query term over time.

Matt Cutts' Explanation about Google guidelines, Monday, March 30, 2009

Matt Cutts, head of Google's Webspam team has delivered an explanation regarding the Webmaster guidelines provide by Google. This was one of the suggestions provided by the Search Engine Giant.."Keep the links on a given page to a reasonable number."

Here are some reasons Matt Cutts cited why it is better to maintain the number of links less than 100.He went on to explain that previously Google indexed just around 100 kilobytes of a page.In case the page exceeds 100 links, it usually exceeds 100kb and the remaining links will be completely ignored or truncated by Google.Suppose, there are more than 100 links on any page ,people who reach the page might be completely overwhelmed and may be unable to find what they were looking for and might decide to leave the page.Google classifies this as a "bad user experience".

However, in some situations, where a large resource library is provided ,it is absolutely necessary to maintain a page with more than 100 links. In these cases Google won't consider these pages as spam, instead Google will either choose to exclude these links from being indexed or might tag them as nofollow.

Latest version of Internet Explorer launched by Microsoft., Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Microsoft has made the latest version of Internet Explorer IE 8, the world's most popular web browser to be available for download .Microsoft revealed that the Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) is much faster, user-friendly and extremely secure than the previous versions of IE.

Internet Explorer is presently utilized as the main browser by around 67 per cent of the world. This is a clear reduction from 91% in 2004,due to rival's such as Mozilla's Firefox, Apple's Safari as well as Google's chrome. Due to the ubiquitous occurrence of IE,it has become a target for hackers trying to prey on its programming areas. For Microsoft to get back its lost market share it needs to convince the net users that the latest version is more secure.

Steve Ballmer, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, has conveyed that Microsoft promises to deliver a browser through which people can get apt information in a fast manner. He also stated that IE 8 provides protection which is incomparable to other browsers.A new feature known as "Accelerators" has been added. Through this feature, users can look an address on a map, without the need to navigate to a separate website. In addition,"Web Slices", which are redesigned flash sites helps in accessing favorites for a net user.

SEO mostly to overtake paid search in 2009, Wednesday, March 11, 2009

The online marketing agency Razorfish has revealed in the Digital Outlook Report 2009,that search engine optimization will become an important method of marketing,by even overtaking paid search like PPC. It has been predicted that companies might witness a fall by around 10% compared to the year 2008 in the case of paid search budgets. This is the first year that companies would be witnessing a fall in the area of PPC's. On the other hand ,it would be the year when many companies would shift to SEO for its marketing.

Some factors which is causing this shift could be due to the following:
1.Advertisers,after several years of being grounded in the area of paid search are quite confident now and willing to shift to the unpaid listings of SEO.
2.Due to the lower cost of SEO when compared to PPC, companies will be drawn towards SEO.

A recent report from eMarketer predicted that there will be tremendous growth in the field of search engine optimization (SEO) during the next five years.

Canonical link element, Friday, March 06, 2009

The top 3 search engines Google,Yahoo and Microsoft have come together in order to launch a new "canonical" link tag which will handle the problem of duplicate content. This tag assists webmasters in order to determine which URL they require the search engines to concentrate on when the website contains a lot of vastly similar or duplicate contents which is pointed to by many URLs.

Joachim Kupke, senior software engineer, and Maile Ohye, developer programs tech lead at Google have mentioned that this tag provides an opportunity to have greater control over the URL's which are returned in search results,if your site has identical contents, corresponding to different URL's

Assume the following 2 pages contain similar contents
http://www.canonicaldemo.com/product.php?items=allequipments
http://www.canonicaldemo.com/product.php?items=equipments

Suppose we need the search engine to display this page in the results page
http://www.canonicaldemo.com/product.php?items=equipments,

then the canonical tag has to be used in the following manner
<link rel="canonical" href="http://www.canonicaldemo.com product.php?items=equipments"/>

People tracker mobile tool "Latitude" launched by google, Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Google Inc with its mobile tracker tool aids in keeping track of the location of people. This is an upgrade to the already existing Google's Mobile Maps. This tool assists people with mobile phones and other wireless devices to inform their friends about their present locations. The user has the choice to decide who can keep track of their location.

One of the major drawbacks of this feature is the question of privacy concerns. But in order to resolve this issue, Google provides a facility by which the user needs to turn on or off the tracking software manually. In addition,Google assures that all of the information about the users locations would be retained by them.Only the last information regarding the person's location would be stored by Google's tracking service.

A user's location is displayed by means of a picture appearing on Google Maps. The information about the location is fetched with the help of cell phone towers,GPS (Global positioning system) as well as Wi-Fi Connections.

Microsoft and Google Return to Basics, Thursday, January 22, 2009

Microsoft and Google have lot in common than the dominance of their respective markets. Both have utilized their cash flows to pursue many side projects in order to move into wider segments. And neither of them have had much success. The recession has had a severe impact on their efforts. Google, just cancelled its print advertisement ambitions, and Microsoft have managed to sell its long-held stake in the cable operator Comcast.

Microsoft's main expertise still in software - its operating system and other programs. These hold around 82 percent of its revenue and nearly all of its operating income. The company has used a lot of those profits to diversify into products like video games and online search, though they haven't obtained much profit from these areas.

Microsoft's Xbox game console just had had its first profit last year after being for nearly 7 years on the market.Microsoft's online search effort has also not been very successful. Its MSN portal has a dismal 8.5 percent share of American search market, and the unit which holds it lost around $480 million last quarter.

Google makes virtually all its revenue from advertising related to Internet searches. Still, that has not stopped it from pouring money - and employee time - into online video, cloud computing and lobbying for renewable energy projects. Analysts say the video site Youtube remains barely profitable. The same goes for Google's free online software initiative, in which it has invested a huge amount.

Google in third position on top 10 list of spam enablers, Wednesday, January 07, 2009

Google still needs to stop the increasing number of spammers from abusing Google Docs, its Web-based collaboration and spreadsheet application, according to junk mail watchdog Spamhaus.Lately, Google changed the position from fourth to third in a list of spammy ISPs (Internet service providers) and other Web services providers updated daily by Spamhaus. Similar to Microsoft and Yahoo,Google's free e-mail accounts are often utilized to send spam.Antispam filtering software is unlikely to block messages coming from the domains of those companies due to their wide use, although spam can be stopped through more sophisticated analysis of an e-mail.

But the greatest problem is how spammers are manipulating Google Docs. The application has a feature where users are able to share a document which is assigned a URL (uniform resource locator). If opened, those documents contain a "redirect" command that pushes them to spammer Web sites, which often sell pharmaceuticals.Spamhaus has had problems in obtaining complete attention from Google about the problem. That's in contrast to Microsoft, which took methods recently to stop spammers from putting redirects on free Web pages and sending out the links as spam.

Performance of Cuil search, Monday, December 29, 2008

In July, the new search engine 'Cuil' was launched with great hype, but was followed by a sequence of bad publicity.Six months since it has been launched and the performance of this search engine has not been good.

Techcrunch reveals the traffic of the search engine in the alexa chart which was updated in another site.A seen from the chart the levels of reach experienced by the search engine has been dropping extravagantly since launch. The site witnessed a large amount of launch traffic, mostly by bloggers checking to see if it was really as bad as reported, before a huge drop off occurred.

Cuil was launched by ex-Google employees and should have performed much better than it has so far. It's also been funded to the tune of $33 million, which also is not a very investment at this stage of the game, considering that Google has established itself in the area of web search.

Release of Windows 7 Beta, Friday, December 26, 2008

People who attend the next month's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) could get the first glance at Windows 7,the next version of Microsoft's client OS.At its Professional Developers Conferencewhich was held in Los Angeles in October, Microsoft informed about the release of the beta early in 2009. Microsoft will be releasing Windows 7 in early 2010, although some industry observers expect it may be out by the end of 2009 because of feeble customer response for thier operating system Windows Vista. Several business customers in particular have opted to skip Vista and run XP till Windows 7 is released in the market.

Release of MSN Messenger 8.5, Tuesday, December 23, 2008

An wholesome new look included with new features makes Windows Live Messenger into a real competitor for Yahoo!Messenger. As usual, one can send instant messages, call a computer, dial a phone number, post a mobile message or send an e-mail. Editing of status display and starting a video chat with friends is possible. Skins and emoticons are some of the new features included in Windows Live Messenger. During installation , users are also prompted to install the Rhapsody Music Service which enables one to play and share music from the Rhapsody catalog.

The main features include that we can create custom emoticons by choosing an image on our computer which will be automatically resized. Additional best features of Microsoft Live Messenger are the Whiteboard, Remote Assistance and Application Sharing.

A major drawback is ,when we receive a file,it will be saved in the default directory instead of prompting to the user to choose the location yourself. The Web Calling service is available for long distance calls for selected countries. The important offline messages feature is not working at all.

Microsoft in the process of fixing security flaws in internet explorer, Saturday, December 20, 2008

Reports are being evolved that there has been several security problems in Internet Explorer.Several computer users out there use Microsoft's Internet Explorer. So it's a genuine drag that there may be a serious security flaw in the browser. The public is being urged to use other browsers while this security flaw is fixed and Microsoft prepares a suitable patch to fix this issue.

The entire network of people using the internet is at risk. This problem is extremely serious as it could give opportunities to criminals to tap into your computer and steal your password which could be disastrous.

Until now , what this flaw has managed to steal are game passwords, but it's clear what the hackers intentions are.Several experts are suggesting users to find alternate browsers to overcome security risks but this is what John Curran, head of Microsoft UK's group said "I cannot recommend people switch due to this one flaw."

MySpace supports Google's Friend Connect service, Thursday, December 11, 2008

Google and MySpace are combining to combat FaceBook Connect. This is made possible by combining MySpace ID with Google Friend Connect.Though MySpaceId is still in development,Google Friend Connect has been released. With Google and FaceBook releasing their web services and data portability being the trend on the web, this was a much predictable move. Also with Myspace's huge collection of user base and Google's popularity and excellent services, this combination turns out to be interesting.

My Space has been facing heavy competition from FaceBook for a long duration. The best option they had was to combine with Google and to compete with FaceBook. We need to wait and see to view the outcome of this deal.

Second Beta Version of Firefox 3.1 to be released soon, Monday, December 08, 2008

Ben Turner, the programmer of Mozilla has informed that the second Beta version of firefox 3.1 would be released soon. The biggest change is the inclusion of "Web Workers", which allows the browser to process tasks in the background. This is a great leap as it gives multicore computers to utilize their processors abilities. The release also includes performance and stability fixes.

As published in a blog, here is one illustration of Web workers...Running a JavaScript program that emulates a decades-old processor design, the 8080. One thread emulates the processor in the background while another handles user interaction such as checking for typing on the keyboard.

Microsoft announces MSN Java Deal, Tuesday, December 02, 2008

Users who download or upgrade Java for Internet Explorer will be prompted to install a MSN search bar that will set Microsoft's search engine as the predefined one.The deal announced by Microsoft for US surfers only, will enable several users to shift from Google in a couple of days.

Those who are installing the Java Runtime Environment for the first time will get a prompt to download and install the MSN and to make Microsoft the default choice for their browsers; those users who have previously installed Java on their personal computers will instead get the same prompts from the Java update interface.

The deal between Sun Microsystems and Microsoft is one of their very first on the the consumer side. However, there are some who suspect that the deal may not have such a big impact,as most users would still revert back to the very old Google.

Microsoft Backs New Yahoo Search Team, Sunday, November 30, 2008

Microsoft Corp is taking up a new management team to take control of Yahoo Inc.'s Internet search business and sign a partnership deal following its failed takeover attempt.

Microsoft will put up $5 billion to back Jonathan Miller, the former chief executive officer of AOL, and Ross Levinsohn, a former president of Fox Interactive Media.

Microsoft is seeking ways to revive its online advertising business as the global recession stifles spending and Google Inc. wins more search users. For Sunnyvale, California-based Yahoo, which spurned Microsoft's bids of as much as $47.5 billion this year, a deal may help shore up revenue after losing out on a partnership with Google.

The terms would give Microsoft a 10-year operating agreement to manage Yahoo's search business, plus a two-year option to buy it for $20 billion. Senior directors of the companies have agreed to the outline of the deal, the newspaper said, without citing anyone.

However Levinsohn denied the report, according to a blog post by the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital.

SearchTogether,a new research project from Microsoft, Thursday, November 27, 2008

Adaptive Systems and Interaction group at Microsoft Research Redmond have released a beta of SearchTogether, which is a free Internet plug in that allows groups of people to collaborate on Web Searches. Meredith Ringel Morris, a researcher spearheading the project conveys that SearchTogether is just a portion of a larger project about collaborative search.

As updated in one of the blogs, Microsoft's SearchTogether is a breakthrough and different from traditional search, which is executed solo. SearchTogether gives opportunity for people at different locations to execute searches as a team.It basically enables people to divide responsibilities and pooling results in a shared Web space on the browser.

Existing search Engines enable users to find Web content on an individual basis.Search interfaces have not yet been able to support collaborative search. Collaborating on search generally means that while one person is at a keyboard, the other makes suggestions. It could also be possible that while two people, each viewing a Web browser, they would be using instant messaging or a phone. The product is expected to become very popular among schools, colleges and universities, where students would have to work on multiple projects.

SearchWiki, a new search tool launched by Google, Tuesday, November 25, 2008

Google has launched a search feature that provided an opportunity for net users to re-rank, delete and add comments on search results.SearchWiki, is an example of how search is becoming increasingly dynamic, providing people tools that make search even more useful.

Suppose a user does the same search, frequently.Later, the user can remove a site from the results that isn't of interest.Users are also given the option to add comments to a site, which pops up every time that site is in the results.Users can further personalize search results by typing in the URL of a site they want to add to their search results for a particular search,or even move a site to the top of the search results. To enable SearchWiki, the user need to be signed in to a Google account and English must be the chosen language.

Additional feature is that users can keep track of all the changes that has been made with the option "see all my SearchWiki notes".One can also remove any changes that have been made to the search results and can revert back to the usual search results.

Google's major update-introduces Video and Voice Chat for Gmail, Thursday, November 13, 2008

Video and Voice Chat has been added to Google, creating a major update for Gmail. In order to make this functionality work, we need to install a small browser plugin, available at the location http://mail.google.com/videochat .This update can function on all browsers and will work on PC's with Windows XP or Vista, including Macs with OS X 10.4 or later.

We need to intially enable this new functionality from the 'Options' menu which is at the bottom of a Gmail chat window. Then we need to select the contact you want to speak with and click on 'Video & more' located in the lower-left part of the chat window. From here on,you can then start a voice or video chat.

Point to note that Google's Gmail desktop chat program has not yet incorporated any video functionality yet, although voice chat is available for Google Talk long time ago. However Google has become a major competitor for skype for which video chat has been one of the major functionalities.

Microsoft CEO rules out option to buyout Yahoo, Tuesday, November 11, 2008

Microsoft Corporation Chief Executive Officer Steve Ballmer said that his company has no plans to make another bid to buyout yahoo.

"We made an offer, we made another offer, and it was clear that Yahoo didn't want to sell the business to us and we moved on .We are not interested in going back and re-looking at an acquisition. I don't know why they would be either, frankly. They turned us down at 33 dollars a share, said Ballmer as published in a blog.

On the contrary,Yahoo Chief Executive, Jerry Yang said that Yahoo would welcome Microsoft if it was ever willing to offer another bid with the former.Yahoo made these remarks after Google stayed out of the ad deal with Yahoo after the Justice Department notified the two companies of an antitrust suit.

Google and Yahoo Ad Deal Discontinued, Saturday, November 08, 2008

After Microsoft opted for a bid for Yahoo in February, Google and Yahoo began several conversations to see if Google could help Yahoo to remain independent. Thus came the advertising agreement which the two companies signed in June. This deal was supposed to deliver Yahoo $250 million to $450 million in additional operating cash flow in the first year.

However,Google chose to abandon this controversial deal after the Justice Department notified the companies that it would file an antitrust suit to block it.
Google's Chief Executive Eric Shmidt said in an interview which was posted in a blog,"We canceled the deal with about one hour to go before a lawsuit was going to be filed against our deal. We concluded after a lot of soul-searching that it was not in our best interest to go through a lengthy and costly trial which we believe we ultimately would have won."

On the contrary,Yahoo said it would have preferred to defend the deal in court. "Yahoo strongly believes we would have prevailed in court if the Department of Justice had filed a lawsuit, but unlike Google, we were prepared to defend our agreement,"said Tracy Schmaler, a Yahoo spokeswoman in a blog.Yahoo's Chief Executive Jerry Yang said that he was upset that Google had chosen to walk away.

Scanned Documents are available through Google Search, Saturday, November 01, 2008

Google turns PDf files generated from scanned paper into digital text using OCR optical character recognition(OCR) technology.

Google product manager hasaid in a blog post "In the past, scanned documents were rarely included in search results as we couldn't be sure of their content. We had occasional lues from references to the document, so you might get a search result with a title but no snippet highlighting your query. Today, that changes. We are now able to perform OCR on any scanned documents that we find stored in Adobe's PDF format".

The converted text of scanned files are available in search pages through the "View as HTML" link.

Google has now introduced the speech search solution, through a new Toolbar for Internet Explorer called VoiceSearchBar.com.This is the first program which allows searching the web using a voice. It is a microsoft component, which is available as a free toolbar for all users.

The program can be installed through the Internet Explorer add-on.Once the installation of this add-on is complete, users with thier voice can enter a search phrase. Then when the voice command "search" is said or when the click button is searched, the user will be redirected to the site www.voicesearchbar.com.In this location, the results of Google will be visible.

In order to improve the quality of speech recognition, we need around 3 to 4 launches of the training mode program. This new program is dedicated to Bill Gates who has been a great supporter of speech recognition softwares.

Google Earth for iphone, Monday, October 27, 2008

Google releases a version of Google Earth for the iPhone as well as for ipod Touch, which allows users for zooming in and out of a virtual globe.Though Google Earth was available for the desktop for nearly 3 years, the iphone deployment is its first mobile version.

The other familiar comparative product for iphones is Google Maps for Mobile (GMM),which emphasises more on localised street mapping and less on a visual reproduction of the earth's topography. In a blog post by Peter Birch, product manager for Google Earth, the iPhone's touch interface allows a user to "swipe [their]finger across the screen and fly to the other side of the globe", while the in-built accelerometers make it possible to adjust the viewing angle by tilting the phone.

Users exhibiting a lack of contentment over the new iGoogle Home Page, Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Google ,which was formerly Google Personalized Homepage and Google IG,is a personalised service of Google. The main features of iGoogle is that it allows the users to include web feeds and Google Gadgets. Google on July 8,2008 had announced that it was beginning the testing period for a new and improved version of iGoogle, which includes several additional new features .On October 16, 2008,Google released its latest version and retired its old version. The new features to be included were replacing tabs with left navigation, including chat functionality ,as well as a canvas view gadget for RSS.

Unfortunately, users have complained of this redesign as most people have disliked this change. The main changes to iGoogle include the ability to increase a gadget application to a full screen, called canvas view and a new left-hand navigation bar.Until now, there had been at least one online petition, requesting that iGoogle users get the option to reset their pages to the previous design, which they preferred.A common complaint is towards the new left-hand navigation column, which many gripe that it takes up valuable screen space and causing a hindrance to their user experience.Another complaint has been that the Gmail gadget had made links in e-mail messages inactive.Above all, there has been objection to Gmail messages which is showing up by default via Gmail gadget. This is a major hindrance for people at work, who don't want their information to be viewed by others. In one of the discussion forums, Google's representative had responded in one of the forums that Google is trying hard to sort these issues.

Recession, one of the cause for boost in Internet search, Sunday, October 19, 2008

Google CEO Eric Schmidt brought forth the following view point when he spoke to analysts on October 17th in a conference call.He reported that there has been a 26 percent increase in third quarter profits and attributed this to the efforts of all his employees. He mentioned that in some ways search engines have benefited from the slow down and every year search queries traffic have been seen to increase in every vertical.

In one of the websites,Eric Schmidt quotes "We believe that these results reflect the fact that as marketing budgets are squeezed, targeted, measurable ads are becoming more valuable to advertisers. As consumer budgets are squeezed, people use the web for comparison shopping to hunt for bargains online and in stores." However he hinted that it would be difficult even for the search engine giant to compete during the harder times of recession in future.

Crawl Error Feature of Google's Webmaster tools has been improved, Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Google Webmaster Tools lately had launched the Crawl Error feature, which gives information about various site URL's for which Google's crawling was not a success.Previously, this tool displayed only the URL's which couldn't be accessed, along with the errors.Later administrators had to trace the cause of these errors.

Now,the Webmaster Tools has been improved to include additional features. The site diagnostic portion of the Webmaster Tools currently includes a "Linked From" column in addition to the "Not Found" and "Errors for URLs in Sitemaps" reports. The Linked From column specifies the number of pages which link to a specific "Not Found" URL and the date when the error was found. All the above details can be downloaded from webmaster tools.

The above features are very helpful for tracking crawling errors. With the help of this tool specific URLs can be identified. In this way, webmasters can detect if the errors were caused by any external links. In that case , they will be able to contact webmasters of the external sites in order to correct the errors.

Google's Youtube enhanced to include "click-to-buy" feature, Sunday, October 12, 2008

With YouTube,Google has become a dominant player in online video, which is an emerging field.Though YouTube had gained popularity,it is yet to find success in the financial area.Making financial popularity its aim,Google provides internet users opportunity to buy songs and games in videos that they watch in YouTube.

Net users who are interested in buying a song featured in a video can click on a location which directs them to either Amazon.com or Apple's iTunes store. From this location, the tracks can be downloaded for a fee. Through this ecommerce ad on format for YouTube, they get a share of the revenue for every transaction that is made.Presently music is available only from EMI and Universal Music Group for "click to buy."

In future,Google is hoping to include other companies and also other varieties of content including film, print and television. If this project is successful, it would help counter YouTube's image as a haven for copyright infringement which is damaging the entertainment industry.

Mail Goggles helps in preventing email regrets, Thursday, October 09, 2008

Gmail, Google's free e-mail service, added a new feature to the service called "Mail Goggles". This feature gives one the ability to double-check if you are sure that you want to send an e-mail message, specially late at night. This feature can be very helpful in avoiding to send hasty e-mails either in your profession or personal life.

This is how it works. One needs to solve a few quick and simple maths problems before actually sending a mail.If you have succeeded in these calculations, then Google assures that you are in a sober state to send the mail.

To enable Goggles, Gmail users need to click the "Settings" link at the top of a Gmail page. From here,we need to go to "Labs" section. Here,we can add settings to include on which days and times, this feature needs to be enabled.

So lets admit we all need some extra help at times before sending mails..and Goggles is there for us.

Mozilla releases the new add-on Geode, Tuesday, October 07, 2008

Mozilla Labs, plans to announce a plug-in called Geode which gives the Firefox Web browser a better ability to understand and utilize geographic information on the Web. Doug Turner,in one of the blogs had said this about Geode, "a Firefox add-on that understands location, enabling enriched, personalized, and localized content."

Today, the real estate term 'location, location, location' is very much applicable to the Web.This is due to the fact that "where you are" is equally important as the information you're seeking.Mozilla's Geode, a Firefox geolocation add-on is one which will enable localized content. At this stage, the details of geode have not been disclosed much, but this is what is explained in one of the blogs "With Geode, a user who is looking for restaurants while they are out of town will be able to load up their favorite review site and find suggestions a couple blocks away and plot directions there." This is more relevant for GPS-enabled mobile platforms that utilise location-specific information in order to simplify the method in which people access and share content on a regular basis.
