To get enough traffic to your site to get return visitors to should update your site. Update or change of your site is dependent on your website if it is portal related site then you should change it daily even hourly if possible. If it is your company site that provide usual service then you may not change it so frequently but you may give a different look at the site like change its design and change in font color and change its banner/layout and definitly content if available.
