Google's AdSense Program is in danger by Trojan, Wednesday, December 26, 2007

Google's AdSense program has been the subject of trouble from a Trojan, an antivirus firm BitDefender has announced. According to BitDefender, the virus, named Trojan.Qhost.WU, alters infected computers' hosts file and redirects the Google AdSense link to a various address. A virus analyst Attila-Mihaly says "This is a serious situation that damages users and webmasters alike".

"Users of adsense are affected as the advertisements and/or the linked sites might contain malicious code, which a very likely situation is given that they are endorsed using malware in the first place." Meanwhile, webmasters are hit because the Trojan grabs the viewers and, as a result, a possible source of revenue from their websites, he added.

Responding to the situation, Google commented: "We have cancelled customer accounts that display ads redirecting users to malicious sites or that advertise a product violating our software principles," Reuter's reports.

Google Knol is a Latter-day Wikipedia?, Tuesday, December 18, 2007

Google is coming up with a method of sharing knowledge called Google "Knol". It is particularly designed to permit users to contribute content/articles on any topic of their interest. Other users would be permitted to rate, comment, or edit on the content/articles. This sounds like Google is a latter-day Wikipedia with a new name called Google Knol. However, Google says that a Knol is a "unit of knowledge," which is in turn an effort to gather and share human knowledge.

The most remarkable part of Google Knol for the users is that it permits ads to appear alongside the content and they could get a share of revenue (Google does not mention the share ratio) in case of any. Google is providing all the tools to write this, and host the content and so on, so that writers could think just on the content. Then, ad revenues those pages shaped can be shared.

New Feature of Adsense, Monday, December 17, 2007

Google is soon coming up with a new feature known as "Ad Review Center", which is particularly designed for giving more control to the web publishers who monetize their web sites with Adsense. The feature might be out in upcoming few months. It will permit web publisher review ads placement-targeted to the website, which would make sure those ads are applicable to your site's users. When you pick up the option for Ad review center, at first you would see all placement-targeted ads currently targeted to your site and after few days you would be able review placement-targeted ads that have previously run on your site. On the other hand, you have an option of blocking the ad from appearing again if the ads are not applicable to your users.

Google disabled Gmail account by error, Wednesday, December 12, 2007

Recently, Google had by mistake disabled some Gmail accounts when trying to deal with spammers. Some of the users posted this issue on Gmail Help Discussion Forum, However, a Google staffer, who checks and posts messages on Gmail Help forum, recognized the existence of such occurrence on behalf of the company.

Recognizing the problem, Google stated that their efforts to put off breach of the Terms of Use (policy) caused a number of users to be wrongly identified as spammers or other violent users. Several hours later, Google Guide confirmed that things were back to standard and the accounts that were disabled have regained access without any data loss.

Is affiliate URLs a problem? - SEO tip of the day dec 9th 2007, Sunday, December 09, 2007

Google, yahoo and MSN search engines had been frowning on affiliate URLs for some time. Lot of affiliate sites got booted out of search engines over a period of time. Affiliate Urls are itself not a problem unless the site runs by itself and doesn't depend on affiliate Urls and affiliate income. Any good quality site can have affiliate URLs or any ads like adsense etc.
But affiliate only sites and MFA ( Made for Adsense ) sites don't work anymore. SO if you are planning to start sites like these we recommend not to do it.

Microsoft's recent update is to eliminate those irritating "click to activate" buttons you see when you open some of web sites using Internet Explorer. Microsoft has now approved the expertise from Eolas, taking off the 'click to activate' obligation in Internet Explorer.

The IE update would hit the market in kind of a progressing deployment. According to IEBlog - "The initial chance would be with an elective preview release, known as the Internet Explorer Automatic Component Activation Preview, accessible in December 2007 by means of the Microsoft Download Center. Additionally this change would be made part of the next pre-release versions of Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3. After giving people sufficient time to arrange for this change, we'll roll this behavior into the IE Cumulative Update in April 2008, and all customers who install the update would get the change."
