SEO Copywriting

SEO Copywriting

If you wish your web page to come within the top ten ranks of the search engine results, you must to know the art of writing search engine friendly content. But for this reason, you should not forget the fact that the web content is primarily meant for the visitor who is searching for information. It is this dual-responsibility that makes the art of SEO copywriting more complex than traditional web copywriting. You will have to take a few steps to make your web page look acceptable for the search engines to add your web page into their databases. You should give special attention to title tag, page content, keyword density and link popularity.

Title Tag

Special care is needed for title tag (<title></title>) as it is far more important than any other HTML tags as far as SEOs are concerned. All major search engines place special emphasis on the words that appear in the title tag and the spiders usually use these words as a index to determine what the rest of your page contain. The title should consist of words that truly reflect the contents of your page and should include the most apt and relevant keywords and phrases. Each title, therefore, should be unique and mirror what is contained in that page. It is preferable to use seven to ten words in the title tag to indicate what the page is all about.

Keywords

The textual content of your web page must obviously contain your targeted keywords in good numbers. The keywords are the words that your potential customers will probably be typing into the subject line of the search engines to locate the related web sites. You can write your own content or hire professional web content writers to generate the right SEO optimized content. If your copy content is found to already exist on the internet, then the search engines can easily detect plagiarism (breach of copyright). Restrict the number of words on each page depending on the web page layout. The content   must be user-friendly and easily understandable to all classes of visitors. If your objective is to achieve a high ranking on search engines, then textual content is crucial. But, at the same time, the search engines must also be able to easily interact with the text. The text must ideally be in HTML and not in graphic format.

Keyword density is directly related to search engine optimization. Keyword density merely means how many times your targeted keywords or key phrases are repeated in the content of your web page. By repeatedly mentioning your keywords or key phrases, you put stress on the importance of those words.  This will drive the search engines to identify your targeted keyword or key phrase and rank the web page accordingly. However, search engines may punish if it finds that your keyword is deliberately overused and unnaturally stuffed into the content.

Link popularity

Link popularity is the term used to indicate the number of links you have from other web sites. These links from other web page are called inbound link or back links. You can expect to receive links from other sites if they find your content relevant and meaningful to their visitors. As the number of links increase, more webmasters come to know about your website. The number of external links in your website reflects its popularity and this is also a crucial factor in terms of search engine rankings. One of the basic criteria for search engines to rank your website is link popularity. Nothing forbids you from soliciting links but you may have to link to others before seeking reciprocal links. Remember, your site will get blacklisted if you deploy artificial means to increase your web link popularity.
