Adsense ads not showing up in Ubuntu / Linux

Written by seg @ 2:45 AM permanent link on Thursday, May 21, 2009 | Post a Comment | 1 comments

I have seen this lot lately. Adsense ads are not showing up in Linux / Ubuntu operating system. I feel this problem has been there for a long time. Is Google adsense ignoring adsense users? I feel Google team is probably thinking Linux users are not going to click and buy anything from adsense ads. I can feel this is a reasonable reason from Google to ignore ads being served for Linux users but still I feel they might lose a lot of revenue.
A member of Google groups says
" For some reason I get the following ad on my site when I am running Linux with the latest version of adobe flash:
www.linlap.com/images/adsense.jpg
However when I switch to Windows I see the following (which I believe should have been the ad seen on Linux):
www.linlap.com/images/goodad.jpg

I have seen this same issue on other sites as well which seems to indicate to me it's a adsense/flash problem rather than something specific to me. I have verified that this occurs with Ubuntu and Fedora (two different versions of Linux) and also to other Linux users as well.

This has been happening for about a month or so for me, just a fresh install of Fedora or Ubuntu and a install of adobe flash will cause this."
Google employee's reply:
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This issue is isolated to Linux users, and our engineers are looking into it.

Opt out of doubleclick cookie - Google Adwords / Adsense

Written by seg @ 11:18 PM permanent link on Thursday, May 14, 2009 | Post a Comment | 0 comments

Cookies are the most irritating spy wares that you will come across. They get stored in your computer without your knowledge and later end up spying your activities even If you don't to be spyed. The concept of cookies itself is shady and I recommend to stay away from spy cookies. Google Adwords and adsense uses double click cookie on client websites. A cookie is stored when someone tries to visit some web page by clicking Google ads. Most of the websites never give opt out option for cookies. But Google is offering complete opt out of double click cookie that it uses to spy on personal user activity.

To opt out go to the following URL:

https://www.google.com/ads/preferences/plugin/

Save your opt-out preference permanently

With this browser plugin you can permanently opt out of the double click cookie, which is an advertising cookie that Google uses.

The plugin lets you keep your opt-out status for this browser even when you clear all cookies.

Opt out

Opt out if you prefer ads not to be based on the interest categories above.

When you opt out, Google disables this cookie and no longer associates interest categories with your browser.

Adsense competitor ad filter had been raised to 500

Written by power @ 9:33 PM permanent link on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 | Post a Comment | 0 comments

Recently Google made major change to competitor ad filter they increased the number of competitor ads to be 500. Means you can actually filter upto 500 ads now it was 250 before. I am sure this will bring a lot of changes since its much needed option. Many people feel its not good to see competitor ads on your site when you run adsense and I am sure you will enjoy this option now.

Apart from that adsense advisor has mentioned top 5 requests made to adsense people:

Top 5 Adsense Publisher Requests

1. Minimum CPC
2. More channels
3. Block ads by keyword
4. Bigger competitive filter
5. Smart pricing information

After Google implemented filter by competitor now people are asking filter by keywords. I am sure Google will implement something like that or similar in future.

One problem you will have filtering out competitor ads is if you filter one ad you will be served an ad that has a lower big value. I am sure it will hurt your earnings. You need to decide between peace of mind or earnings if you want more earning them I am sure blocking competitor ads is not a great idea.

Some niches don't need to too much policing some sites where we run adsense ads we don't filter even a single competitor ads we earn around 400$ a month per site and we are more than happy with it. I hate ads which carry phone numbers I feel its too much aggressive and prefer to filter those ads.

Zombie websites - Expired domains replaced with old content

Written by Search Engine Genie @ 8:10 AM permanent link on Monday, May 5, 2008 | Post a Comment | 0 comments

Zombie sites according to him are sites that are mostly expired domains which are replaced with its original content to make it look as if its the same site. Most of these sites completely loose their Google rankings since google has whois data which is updated internally and any major change to a whois of a particular site especially if the site changes hands google automatically imposes a penalty and makes sure all backlinks to that domain are banned and the site has to start gaining new backlinks.
So Google does its work but the sites that are expired still might get traffic from Backlinks they had previously the question of the main poster in this thread is why does Google allow sites that are like these to publish adsense ads. That is a Good question which only Google can respond.

My take on this Google don't have time to check each and every site whether it violates copyright or its using previous owners contents. if some one complains they can definitely look into it and if the person who complains have valid reason then definitely Google will take action against the site.
I personally feel automated means to detect these stuff is just a waste of resources which can be spent in a much better way. Final take Google can keep providing adsense ads as long as the ads are relevant to the site if a valid complain comes they can block ads from being published on this site.

Which sites you filter in Adsense - Webmasterworld discussion

Written by Search Engine Genie @ 7:13 AM permanent link on | Post a Comment | 0 comments

After Google released AdSense it is become one of the primary source of income for site owners who monetize their website through good content. Apart from the good results from AdSense there are a lot of spam related issues with AdSense. Lots of MFA ( Made For AdSense ) sites started coming up and this has polluted both search results and user experience. Most of the people behind MFA sites are big time spammers and they are ready to do anything to get traffic to the site.

Good traffic will result in more click through from AdSense and this will result in more revenue for the website publisher. AdSense itself is a very useful way of monetizing a site i always like to stay away since its too much abused by spammers. I feel today most of the people who see AdSense ads all over the page will feel that the site is related to spam. Its all because of the major abuse AdSense has gone through. AdSense itself offers the option to run ads for MLM schemes, ring tone affiliates, spam parked domains, get rich quick scheme, email harvesters, crap toolbars, crap software without a decent option to uninstall , scam sites asking funds for charity etc.

For publishers Google has an option to block certain type of sites from being shown up on their sites. Publishers have the option to filter out unwanted sites. This is great since some users don't like sites showing certain type of Ads. For example a family friendly site don't want to see ads related to drugs stuff we have an option to filter this. A cool discussion in webmaster world discusses on what type of sites are being filtered from their sites.
Most common filtered sites as per discussion are MLM, drug related sites, ring tone sites, sites offering free stuff, Parked domains, Work-At-Home, E-mail harvesters etc.

Best PPC Advertising now - best paying company

Written by Search Engine Genie @ 1:31 PM permanent link on Monday, April 28, 2008 | Post a Comment | 1 comments

Currently there are a lot of PPC companies which allow Ad publishing and pay out based on clicks generated from Ad publishing. Everyone knows that Google is one company you can believe and rely on. There programme Adsense has been a hit for a long time. Though lot of companies have come up recently still Adsense is unmoved from its current position. This is because they had been very genuine in their business.

Some times Adsense payouts are very less but mostly Search Engines pay out less because of potential fradulent clicks.

SO I recommend if you are a new Ad publishing without any experience with any Ad publishing company one company I recommend to believe is Google.

Believe Google and I am sure you will get what you are looking for

Adsense scam people out there do it - A new scam in adsense

Written by Search Engine Genie @ 8:08 PM permanent link on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 | Post a Comment | 0 comments

When I was browsing through digitalpoint forums where a poster was bragging about his high income in adsense he guarantees to make at least 70$ a day from adsense ads alone per site. He claims to run many sites and claims to make 1000s of dollars.

We had been running adsense in some of sites and ill tell you unless you have an extraordinary site rarely you will cross 10$ per day. We know sites that make 200 or 300 but that's very very rare and the site should get 1000s and 1000s of visitors a day to generate that much clicks and Income. But there are scammers out there who want to take people's Money by scamming them into adsense advertising.

Look at this claim

"Dear all,

I'm having many websites and each of them are fetching daily
around $70, and from one site i'm at present earning around $1700, so like wise
i have many sites. Moreover i have 2 adsense accounts, one on my name and
another on my company name and different address.
I'm in adsense from last 5
years, and I know each and everything how to earn massive income with a clean
chit.
My co. started in creating sites on different topics which give 100%
guranteed income. I've the proof of all the sites with daily payment details, i
can also show you, but most of you will tell its a photoshop trick :-). But its
not. why read on.
We create professional websites especially for adsense
earning, with seo optimization, high paying keywords, keywords for getting good
ranking and traffic. Apart from this, we put a listing of 25k of your site, you
can check it regularly to confirm whether we worked or not.
Another most
important thing, which no one can offer, is at present to get pin no. you have
to cross, $10, what if our service, gives you $10 in few hrs, with 5000
impression and corresponding clicks. Moreover we promise you to give first $100
credit in 2 days by putting your pub code on our sites, so that you can get the
check in the first month, without waiting for years like others. Ofcourse we
charge for our service, we have services like giving sites on rent basis with
daily fees of 50% of daily amount generated in your account. For example if our
sites gives you an income of $100 in a single day, than you have to pay us $50.
Another option is to buy one time professional site with $100 free credit.
PLEASE don't think that we will use traffic generating softwares and other
useless things to increase your daily incomes. Before you take our service we
will show you all the proof of websites currently running on our service and how
much they are earning daily and copies of their adsense cheques too.
You
Might Ask us... Instead of giving services to different people why can't we only
create websites for self and make huge income ?
Answer: We already made huge
no. of websites for us and earning excellent income daily. Moreover as we said
we create professional websites only not just creating a plane website and
putting code and go on. To really make good income you have to weekly update
your site with recent best keywords in the market, and full page for ranking and
traffic and seo. Now our aim is to give the same benefit to other people who
really want to make income and who are really serious of making money using
adsense. Because on internet adsense is the only one marketing program which
pays you. We charge fees to cover our staff expense and research work. Moreover,
one can easily see above that we give free credit of $100, so what all service
you get is of free cost.. got my point. We can't put list of websites here and
more details about our services. If anyone is interested please PM me of send
mail to ( ziahasa*****q21 atherate hotmail dot com)
Regards
Adsense Guru Inc."

When you read the claim you can see he is offering to build sites in different topics with guaranteed Income. That is utterly baseless claim. Most of these MFA ( Made For Adsense ) sites are banned by search engines and they will not perform in search engines any more. A good SEO takes atleast a year to work most probably the above scammer is using all traffic generating from robots which visits a site from different bogus IPs and generates clicks. I recommend you stay away from these sort of claims since they might damage your reputation with Google adsense and search engine algorithms.
