The first and foremost update is:

And for your questions, we have a new addition to our already existing communication channels languages!)”. They also have their own official Orkut Webmaster Community where users can share their thoughts and discuss webmaster related issues. To do so one can sign up for the Orkut community and if any thoughts are there then it can be shared with them.

On demand site map for Custom Search

It’s all about the custom search. Webmasters who submit sitemap to webmaster tools always get a very special treatment. The customs Search identify the submitted sitemaps and indexes URLs from these site maps into a separate index for higher quality Custom search results. They interpret your CSEs pick up the appropriate sitemaps and they figure out which URLs are relevant for your search engines for enhanced indexing. This brings you a dual benefit of great discovery for Google.com and more comprehensive coverage in your own CSEs.

Today they have put a step forward in improving your experience with Google Webmaster services with the launch of On-Demand Indexing in custom search. With the help of this you can tell them about the pages which are new or which are significant and have changed and custom search will immediately schedule them for crawl and index and serve them in your CSEs normally within 24 hours, often much speedy.Further this also gives important points to be bared in mind.

Third update is a very interesting one...Its all about the SEO starter Guide.

It covers around a dozen common areas that webmasters might consider optimizing. They felt that these areas would apply to webmasters of all experience levels and sites of all sizes and kinds.  All through the guide, they also worked in many instances, pitfalls to shun, and links to other resources that aid expand their explanation of the topics. They also plan on updating the guide at regular intervals with novel optimization suggestions and to keep the technical advice current.

Spookier than malware…

This update is all just fun. It’s about their Halloween celebration by the Webmaster central team!

Reflections on the "Tricks and Treats" webmaster
event:

It’s about how did it go, what’s next, a big thank you and few presentations by people of Google Groups.

It was an exciting, fatiguing, and educational event. They're aware that the sound quality wasn't great for some folks, and they’ve feedback thread.  Last but not least, they are bummed to admit that someone but forgot to hit the record button.

In what’s next well, for starters, all of us Webmaster Central Googlers will be spending fairly some time taking in our feedback.  Some have requested sessions completely covering particular (pre-announced) topics or tailored to specific experience levels, and they've also heard from many webmasters outside of the U.S. who would love online events in other languages and at more suitable times.  No promises, but you can bet we're eager to please!

And next is a big thank you where they thank all the fellow Googlers.

And finally end up with few presentations as said earlier by people of Google groups.

Malware?? Don’t need any stinking malware!

This explains about a main sentence which we often find while browsing. “This Site May harm your Computer”. All in all it explains in detail the meaning of malware label and how one does gets rid of it when it is found in their site by Google Scanners.

It tells out all the points so clearly and also tells how to request a review via Google Webmaster Tools.bsp;;

G2009 Tips for Big Web Companies:
2009 is approaching quickly, and the consensus is that it's going to be a really tough year. The US financial crisis is triggering a global recession. Yet, a crisis is also a time full of hope. It is a time to re-think, re-tool, and get ready for the next upswing.

For big Internet companies, 2009 is going to be a very bad year for sure. Advertising profits are going to plunge, and consumers will spend less money overall, particularly on the web. There is little that can be done to change that. But what big companies can do is invest in innovation and killer moves that will bear fruit in the years to follow. Google Pins Gmail Bug On Phishing:

on Tuesday reported that it has investigated recent reports of post explained that in response to speculation about an alleged security vulnerability in Gmail, Google has looked into the matter and found no evidence of a Gmail vulnerability.

On Sunday, in a post on the GeekCondition.com blog, Web developer Brandon Partridge warned that an attacker can force an unsuspecting Gmail user to create a malicious message filter without his or her knowledge. This would enable an attacker to hijack messages sent the victim without the victim's knowledge.

Gmail bug on phishing

But the vulnerability turns out to be gullible users who fall for a phishing scam.

"Attackers sent customized e-mails encouraging Web domain owners to visit fraudulent Web sites such as 'google-hosts.com' that they set up purely to harvest usernames and passwords," explained Evans. "These fake sites had no affiliation with Google, and the ones we've seen are now offline. Once attackers gained the user credentials, they were free to modify the affected accounts as they desired. In this case, the attacker set up mail filters specifically designed to forward messages from Web domain providers."

Security researcher Petko D. Petkov of GNUCitizen.org, who identified a Gmail vulnerability last year, said the technique described by Partridge appeared to be some form of cross-site scripting (XSS), rather than the cross-site request forgery vulnerability he had found. Though his assessment may be misplaced in this instance, it would be unwise to believe that no further Gmail holes will be identified.

Evans recommends that Google users only enter Gmail sign-in credentials to Web addresses starting with https://www.google.com/accounts and that they "never click-through any warnings your browser may raise about certificates."

It might also be worth adding that one should be skeptical about the legitimacy of e-mail messages, particularly from unknown sources.

Google's new Chrome beta gets bookmark control:

In addition, the built-in version of Gears, a collection of Google browser extensions for features such as offline browsing and geolocation, has been updated from 0.4.24.0 to version 0.5.4.0, and the V8 JavaScript engine has been updated from from 0.3.5.0 to 0.3.9.2, Larson said.

Forum Thread of the Week:

The following is the discussion about Yahoo Search Engine and its directory and below are the few views/comments posted by persons in webmaster world:

Person1: Definitely some changes in my niche - back to two updates ago near enough... I bounce around a lot in the Yahoo SERPS but in a consistent way, one update puts me on page 3, the next back to page 1. It's been like that for about 6 months now!

Person2: It seems they've dropped many of the Google manipulations they started in July especially in my areas. Wise decision on Yahoo's part. Let the good times roll. Commerce sites are coming back.

Person3:

Commerce sites provide jobs for the masses and stimulate the economy.

My post may have not been very clear, I was thinking that content rich site usually are the best match for what people are searching for, hence their higher value and relevancy for search engines. An in-depth, critical article on widgets will always be more attractive than some list of widgets to buy.

As for Google or Yahoo! "responsibility" to stimulate the economy and offer biased results in favor of ecommerce sites so people buy more, that's a strange rationalization for making them suddenly responsible for your financial success. Nobody owes you anything, that's the nature of the business world. Private companies are not the government. Search engines will offer SERPs that match people's expectations, their own survival depends on it, if a company wants more instant traffic to sell their goodies and don't have time or resources to write articles that will bring traffic in the long term, that's what Adword is for (which does its part to stimulate the economy by employing thousands of publishers, this is no different than a company offering thousands of normal jobs).

My personal take on that one, however, is that Americans already are in debt for buying too many goodies. Recessions are natural part of an economy where people learn lessons about consumer excesses, buying what they can't afford and not saving diligently.
I consider it the "Divorce from Google" update.
This is a great stimulus for the economy. Meanwhile Google force-feeds us every encyclopedia article, research piece, and worthless You Tube feed it can find to fatten its own wallet and force businesses into Adwords. God forbid Google should help the US economy other than itself. File that under "never gonna happen".
