Yahoo Inc launches Open Source Program

Yahoo Inc. has of late launched an open source program objective at enhancing research and growth of systems software for distributed computing. Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (NASDAQ :YHOO) stated that this plan is projected to leverage its leadership in Hadoop, an open source circulated computing sub-project of the Apache Software Foundation, to allow researchers to adapt and assess the systems software running on a 4,000 processor supercomputer provided by Yahoo.

“Unlike other companies and traditional supercomputing centers, which focus on offering users with computers for running tools and for coursework, Yahoo’s plan focuses on pushing the boundaries of large-scale systems software research,” the company said.
