Microsoft extends net with Baidu search engine alliance
Microsoft is dealing up with Baidu.com to hand out the search engine’s paid-for-listings on Microsoft pages. Microsoft would display Baidu’s paid listings, which would appear with search results when key words are typed in by users on Microsoft Websites including MSN, Live and other partner Websites in China.
The company then expects revenue of 270 million to 280 million Yuan in the fourth quarter.
Microsoft breathing new life into MSN
Microsoft has pushed its online services as a key to the future of Microsoft; they’ve almost always meant Microsoft’s “Live” services.
MSN.com now attracts 465 million users a month, at the same time; Microsoft is also planning to position MSN “as the best partner for current media companies”
Mr. Steve Berkowitz, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President of Online Services, had made few interesting observations about MSN.
Microsoft groups its Windows Live services into three categories:
1. Search/Inform
2. Communications/Connect
3. And Protect
Microsoft’s eventual goal with its Live.com is to flesh it out with its other Windows Live services, like Mail, Messenger and Spaces.
Microsoft talks about two kinds of search: Destination and Convenience. It believes it has change to make inroads in the convenience search space.
Microsoft further plans is to integrate its core Live Services into few other available Microsoft products, such as Xbox.
Berkowitz says that Microsoft’s aim will be to popper users in the “sticky apps and experiences”, which would make them less inclined to veer outside the Microsoft fence.
The next step is Microsoft maps in Google chase
San Francisco – Microsoft Corp. has improved its online mapping service that consists of three-dimensional protrusion of 15 U.S. cities to obtain an aerial view of their homes and neighborhoods. Later in months, Microsoft is expected to include more upcoming cities. A convenience that Google Earth doesn’t offer currently is the Virtual Earth Service which provides “Photorealistic” images, at Microsoft’s live.com site.
Microsoft will change the structure of the way it reports
Microsoft made up a plan of changing the method of reporting financial results. The software giant will divide its results into five, rather than seven, groups. Alteration will include merging the Amusement via entertainment and mobile device units, as well as combining the unit that includes Office with the Microsoft.
Microsoft is also re-assigning the monetary results of its Exchange business, moving them from the Server and Tools unit to the Microsoft Business division, which encloses Office, Microsoft Business Solutions and other corporate software.
Its MSN unit will move to the Online Services Group, which will now comprise MSN and Windows Live.
