Microsoft Hopes to Capture a Big Part of Chinese Search Market

The search market is an extremely profitable business for those involved. In the United States,Google,Yahoo and Bing are the obvious leaders in the search trade. The Chinese search market is an unusual setting from what the major players in America are used to. In China, the chief search engine is not a name that most Americans are familiar with. The top search engine for Chinese users is Baidu , which holds 63.9% of the Chinese search market, which leaves Google in the subsequent place with 31.3% of the search market.

The Chinese search market is very productive with a value of $293 million in Q3 2009. Microsoft is hoping to intensify the popularity of its Bing search engine in China. The software giant announced that China is its chief strategic market for search.

China is such a significant market to search firms as it is home to the world’s leading internet population with more than 350 million users. Bing has been available in China as a beta product for sometime now, but has not made a considerable impact in the market so far.

Extensions in Google Chrome :

Firefox has long been greater to Google Chrome, for most part because of Firefox add-ons. Now since the Google Chrome Extensionsare available here at https://chrome.google.com/extensions, many people might prefer to switch over to Google.

Google Chrome
Although there are just around 500 Google extensions, in comparison to thousands of add-ons for Firefox, several best and most constructive Firefox add-ons are already available as Google extensions, or their capabilities are duplicated by a Chrome extension.

For those interested mainly in speed, the additions of extensions to Chrome are reason enough to make the change from Firefox. For many the ultimate turning point would be extensions available for Chrome, while many are sure to stick to Firefox till they find each and every of their extensions available for Chrome.

Google Wave,a Tool for Effective Communication

Google Wave

Google Wave is a pioneering real-time joint tool that has the potential to be a perfect method for members of a group to work together. Yet, it’s not lucid how useful it will be in the real world. It’s the sort of tool that you prefer to use, but one that you might not be able to figure out easily, how to fit into your work life.

In fact,Google Wave seems to be one of those tools that’s extremely difficult to explain to those who haven’t started using it. One way to think of it is as a collection of threaded e-mail conversations and instantaneous messaging. Rich content, together with Google maps, interactive polling, videos and much more, can be embedded in conversations (known as waves). Additionally, the rich content is live and interactive. As an example,if you embed a Google map, all members in the conversation can utilize it as if they were on the Google Maps site. All the above features makes for a kind of profound collaboration that’s impossible with more conventional means of Internet communication. Theoretically, Google Wave can help groups distribute information, take decisions and actions faster. In practice, however, it’s difficult to predict the future of Google Wave, as most people still prefer to use the traditional e-mail.

Presently,Google Wave is still in a fairly strongly controlled, invitation-only beta. Considering that it’s free, however, when it becomes public, or if you’re fortunate enough to obtain an invite, it’s definitely worth to test it out, just for the “coolness” factor. For further details, check wave.google.com

Aardvark Emerges as a ‘Social Search Engine’

Aardvark

Microsoft may be the only company with the means to challenge Google’s Internet search dominance head on, but a number of firms are trying to compete with Google with services that tackle aspects of search that is not covered by Google’s index of Web pages. Aardvark – a firm whose cofounders also include two ex-Googlers – is tackling something that it calls “social search.”

This is how aardvark functions.Instead of looking at Web pages to search answers to obtain queries, Aardvark’s service tracks a person’s network of social contacts. Ask Aardvark for any kind of question ranging from restaurant recommendations to home enhancement tips, and the service will pass on the question to Facebook and Twitter friends who have recognized themselves as “experts” on a variety of topics.

The aardvark service, which has obtained praise from the New York Times’ David Pogue and other tech bloggers, was started as a beta version earlier this year but accessing Aardvark required utilizing instant messaging software or an iPhone app.

Recently, the company put the search box directly on a website – vark.com – enabling it to become more reachable for a wide range of people.

Similar to the so-called real time search engines popularized by Twitter, Collecta and OneRiot, though presently Aardvark depicts a small segment ,it might be quite dangerous for Google in future . Most of the content that transmits through these new types of search services is not essentially reachable by Google’s search engine.Google is making its efforts to tackle the situation by licensing the Twitter data feed. As more innovative forms of search evolve,Google will find itself having more such talks.

Zook

An Indian local and media search site Zook.in (http://www.zook.in/) is using search engines from Yahoo and Microsoft at the back-end of its site to keep its costs low.Rather than pay yellow pages companies to provide local data, which is often limited to only key locations, Zook.in analyzes content thrown up in searches by mainstream search engines, to offer immediately consumable data in the area of local search and media search, said Ajay Sethi,CEO of Ziva Software, the company that runs the new web site.

Zook.in is launching at one go in India and abroad, as it believes that to succeed as a viable business proposition, it has to scale quickly to millions of users.Local searches and searches for media are key search categories for mobile phone users, Sethi said.

While mobile phone users can also search for other general information on the Zook.in web site, the results displayed on its “Web snippets” section will be of a similar quality to those offered by the back-end mainstream search engines. On local searches, the site returns data such as the address and telephone numbers of hotels, restaurants, government offices, consulates, malls, hospitals, and other key places. Users can click on the telephone numbers provided, and dial out immediately.

Google Caffeine-The new version of Google Search Engine

Google CaffeineThe Search engine giant Google has released the developer version of its new upgraded version, which is coded as Caffeine-an interesting name, though ! Most people would have the same opinion that a little jerk of caffeine is just what the body requires in order to kick into high gear and begin moving more rapidly in the morning. It appears that, caffeine can have the same consequence on Google Incorporations search engine. Google themselves have stated this improvement as the “next-generation architecture”.
The internet giant promises that “Caffeine” will definitely improve on categories such as speed, size, accuracy as well as comprehensiveness of Google search. When it comes to the above factors, this is what the net users look for :
Speed: How rapidly can the fresh search engine load results?
Accuracy: Which set of results matches the search term?
Temporal Relevancy: Is the version of search engine good at capturing breaking news?
Index Size: Is it really all-inclusive than the previous version of Google?

Once Microsoft launched Bing ,the whole world was wondering how good this will be and if it can contend against Googles search technology. Bing proved that it is a very good search engine, and after that everybody was wondering what will Google do in order to overpower Microsoft’s
new search engine.Probably caffeine is the answer for the doubt raised in people’s minds.

Tests so far have revealed that the latest version of Google is twice faster than the the previous Google and it also displays higher search results (depending on queries). At the moment it looks like Caffeine is superior than the old Google, but we need to wait for it to be released.

The development version is available at www2.sandbox.google.com
