Google wins patent for search results page design

This week design of Google’s search results page had earned U.S. patent protection, it brings the sum number of patents that were held by the search giant to three dozen.

Design Patent No. 533,561, was awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday, and covers “the ornamental design for a graphical user interface” as shown in numerous screen shots of the Mountain View based company’s search results pages.

The screen shots describe lists of the Google’s search results, with blocks of news related and even sponsored advertising links at the top. A graphic of the word Google, speaks out with multiple o’s corresponding to the number of pages of search results returned, is centered at the base of the page.

IBM and Yahoo Try to Challenge Google
