It might have aquired the name bonze,as Umibozus like the Buddhist monks are said to have large ,round heads in resemblance to the shaven heads of Buddhist monks.In Japanese folklore, umibozus are believed to live in the oceans and if anyone in a ship takes the bold step to speak to it, it would capsize the ship.
