SEOs in twitter prosper

Twitter has become an excellent tool for SEOs. SEO had a wrong name with many social sites. Places like myspace, Orkut and even social bookmarking sites like digg hates SEOs. But nowadays there are many SEOs who use twitter the right way.

They have learned methods to use sites like twitter with lot of respect. I have seen some very good discussions in twitter between people in search engine industry. Some SEOs have 1000s of followers which itself is a very good sign for SEOs.
People are listing to the SEO guys and I have seen people like matt cutts, Adam lasnik follow some SEO guys. Matt cutts makes some interesting comments in his twitter account which is worth the read when you are in search engine industry.
He already has a whooping http://twitter.com/MattCutts number of followers ( 45,000 ) .

Its incredible since there are so many people who are active in this search and SEO industry. Today the awareness of people about search engines is huge. Only good SEO companies and SEO guys survive in this ever increasing competitive industry.
Other people to look out for in twitter are Danny Sullivan, Jeremy Zawodny and lot more. I don’t recommend you block anyone who wants to follow you unless you feel they are really spammy. I have seen people having 100s of followers before seeing anyone spamming them.
Most SEOs feel twitter is a great neighbourhood. Even Pageoneresults ( Edward ) has named it twitterhood. Great to see SEOs use a great platform in a constructive way.

Toronto based scammers sending fake SEO service invoice

This scam has been there for a while. A group of scammers based in Toronto, Canada are / were sending fake invoices in the name of some reputable search engine optimization companies. Apart from sending fake invoices they also send fake notices for non existent SEO services. They send out saying that they will get you listed in all search engines for a low price. This scam has been there for a while and even ftc.gov has taken action against it.

See more information here http://powerofgenie.com/2009/02/scam-takes-a-new-turn/

According to the FTC, since 2004, Toronto-based Internet Listing Service has been sending fake invoices to small businesses and others, listing the existing domain name of the consumer’s Web site or a slight variation on the domain name, such as substituting “.org” for “.com.” The invoice appears to come from the businesses’ existing domain name registrar and contains terms such as “WEBSITE ADDRESS LISTING” and “ANNUAL WEBSITE SEARCH ENGINE LISTING.” The invoice also claims to include a search engine optimization service. Most consumers who receive the “invoices” are led to believe that the defendants are their current domain name registrar and that they must pay them to maintain their registrations of domain names. Other consumers are induced to pay based on defendants’ claims that their “Search Optimization” service will “direct mass traffic” to their sites and that their “proven search engine listing service” will result in “a substantial increase in traffic.”
The FTC’s complaint charged that most consumers who paid the defendants’ invoices do not receive any domain name registration services and that the “search optimization” service is ineffective and does not result in increased traffic to the consumers’ Web sites.
The FTC charged that the “invoices” represented that the defendants had a preexisting business relationship with the consumer. The “invoices” also represented that consumers owed money for the continued registration of their Web site names and that the defendants would provide continued registration services for consumers. The defendants also claimed that the “search optimization” service would substantially increase traffic to consumers’ Internet Web sites. The FTC alleged all that of these claims were false and violated federal law.

There are scam in search engine optimization everywhere we just need to be more aware.

Caffeine update – upcoming Caffeine update in Google updated my Matt cutts

Mattcutts Google’s web spam head recently revealed in his blog mattcutts.com/blog/ that Google is about to make an update to their index. He named it as Caffeine update. This caffeine update seem to be an upgrade to the way Google indexes site. Not many visible changes to ranks i virtually see zero movement across our sites and our client sites.

He tells us to check Google ranking changes in this datacenter http://www2.sandbox.google.com/ . Only big visible change i see here is the wonderful update timings of sites. Almost all results show updated in few minutes or few hours which is amazing.
But one funny thing i noticed which i searched for “Google blog” i got this funny result with site links.

caffeine update joke

We usually see the notice “this site may harm your computer” when there is a virus alert and the site is infectious. Here a sitelink for Google blog looks very similar to a virus injection warning. 🙂 thats funny i hope Google realizes that fast or they might loose some people who are afraid to click a link that says a look alike warning like that.

New SEO scam or is it phishing ?

I recently came across these type of emails in number of sites we monitor. These mails seems to come from the same group of people. What are they trying to achieve?

“Sender’s name: Joseph SwansonComments from : Joseph SwansonSender mail id : joseph2319@gmail.comComments : We would like to get your website on first page of Google. All of our processes use the most ethical \”white hat\” Search Engine Optimization techniques that will not get your website banned or penalized. Please reply and I would be happy to send you a proposal. In order for us to respond to your request for information, please include your company’s website address (mandatory) and or phone number.”

Its very sad few people like them bring bad name to this company calling their strategies white hat.

Keeping Top ranking for competitive phrase:

You get top ranking for competitive phrase. How to you sustain its rankings? We have used the knowledge gained over the years to keep competitive rankings consistently for more than 3 years but following some simple yet strong SEO tactics.
1. Make sure your links are consistent most of the time ranking drops happen when the existing links lose its value. Keeping looking for quality natural resources to get backlinks. There are many organizations out there willing to link out to quality websites without any monetary benefit. You can approach them and they will eventually link to you.
2. If you have achieved top ranking it doesn’t justify you achieved everything. We need to make sure we keep adding quality contents, blogs and whatever you were doing before to come up on top.
3. Also if one phrase is ranking make sure you rank for more relative phrases, synonyms, plurals etc. This will help the search engines understand better your rankings are deserved and they will keep your ranking on top.
4. If a page ranks in search engine for top competitive phrase make sure you don’t too much play with it. You can play around it not play with it. We never know what factors contribute to the ranking for a phrase and it’s important not to mess it up.
5. Avoid using anything negative that might result in over optimization or penalty. When people get top rankings they get existed and tend to go more aggressive. Aggression not only hurts but your site can disappear from rankings for a long time.
