Google’s new office at New York

Google has recently opened its new office in the Big Apple at 111 Eighth Ave., in the heart of the Chelsea neighborhood in Manhattan, New York.

Google would tend to occupy about 300,000 square feet on three floors of the building. Built in 1932 for the New York Port Authority, the building is a home to such companies as Global Crossing and also for Barnesandnoble.com. It is the second-largest building in Manhattan in terms of square footage.

Talk between MSN and Yahoo Messenger

Microsoft has announced that the work has been completed to combine its MSN Messenger instant messaging network with Yahoo! Messenger. From today the services have combined 350 million users who could communicate to those on the other network as well. The combined network is now the worlds biggest.

Since Google bought a stake at AOL earlier this year, the two companies have also spoken of combining Google Talk and AIM as well although not timetable for integration has yet been announced.

The launch of Google Checkout will take place after Google celebrates their eighth year anniversary. It is quite easy to imagine that Google has been around for a longer than this, such their ripeness and global reputation.

Local video site launched by Google

Google Inc today had launched an Australian version of its video hosting site, Google Video that would feature a range of content from the local media groups. The site follows the set-up of the existing global video service but would still distribute short and long-form media from providers such as ABC, Network Ten and even Fairfax Digital.

This would carry television programs, news updates and other entertainment. Google Video also allows users to upload and download video and share it with other users, post media to blog sites such as MySpace.

At present it is competing with other popular video providers such as YouTube.

Google Video improves university lectures

SAN FRANCISCO – Online video is now no longer just for fun and games: You may really learn something out of it. The University of California at Berkeley informed that it uses Google Video to deliver college courses, including lectures and other symposia, free of charge, the first university to have its own featured page on Google Video.

The site is at http://video.google.com/ucberkeley, Google Inc. (GOOG.O: Quote, Profile, Research) and campus officials said in a statement.

As a first offering, the university has put up an amazing library for more than 250 hours of video for public viewing. Most of it was not available online previously, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said in a statement.

Google Online Video is a comprehensive index of free and paid, user-generated and also professional video content. And also will be available on range of public events and academic symposia on topics ranging from climate change to synthetic biology. The campus is set for adding more material to the Google Video site in coming months, it said.

Google Library now extends to Spain

Google is now in partnered with the “Complutense University” in Madrid to make thousands of Spanish books available online for public access. The two organizations have decided to digitize the university library’s out-of-copyright books by placing some of the greatest books of Spanish literature on the web. Plus its collection of Spanish-language public domain books, the university would also make accessible works of Spanish historic importance, with numerous books in French, German, Latin, Italian and English.

“Complutense University” is the first Spanish partner to join Google’s Library Project. Google Book Search is already working with the New York Public Library and the universities of Michigan, Harvard, Oxford, Stanford and California.

MSN India launches portals in different languages

MSN India has recently announced the portals of five different Indian Languages. The new portals are MSN Hindi, MSN Tamil, MSN Telugu, MSN Kannada and MSN Malayalam apart from unveiling Windows Live Messenger in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

This allows users to chat in their regional language with their friends and family on MSN messenger. These regional portals were launched by the well-known singer Shubha Mudgal in New Delhi.

MSN India has launched its refurbish home page. It has added 4 new channels to it – Lifestyle, Entertainment, News and Sports. In addition with services such as Windows Live Domains, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Search and special effects (SFX) advertising packages.

Yahoo! has announced that they have rationalized the beta of their under development Yahoo! Mail.

Yahoo also said that the updated Yahoo! Mail brags more desktop application features such as the drag-and-drop organization. Besides, they have also included calendar and maps, message previews, an integrated RSS reader and new search potential in this update.

Google includes Multimedia Content to Earth

Google Earth now offers multimedia content from the Network of Discovery and others. This Google Earth will bring satellite views of geographic locations along with multimedia content from the network of discovery and other newly added features. Superimposes are obtainable by clicking a “featured content” checkbox in the desktop software’s sidebar.
