Recently, Google’s Co-founder Sergey Brin stated “We have been talking to Yahoo and we are very excited to be working with them.” So what are the two giant up to? Though Microsoft planned to walk away from its decision of acquiring Yahoo, it looks like Yahoo is yet chasing the protective plan of grouping up with Google. Actually, part of the cause Microsoft dipped its bid for Yahoo was may be because Yahoo was so fast to edge up to its main contestant and get all cozy.

Google will finally offer programmers access to API for its Trends analysis tool, which will allow users to insert the tool in their applications or the users can even download the data from the application for personal use also. Google granted US patent for ‘similarity engine’

The US Patent and Trademark Office have finally granted two patents to Google, one for methods and apparatus estimates similarity and another one for a digital mapping system. This patent number 7,158,962 was initially filed during 2001 and took five years to receive approval.

It will describe the method whereby a similarity engine creates compact representative of objects called ‘Sketches’. These sketches that contain weighting could further be compared for similarities.

Cognos adds link to IBM-Yahoo search engine

Cognos has recently added a link among its BI search engine and a new IBM-Yahoo search tool. It would let the users collect structured and unstructured data at the same time. IT executives said that such combined searches could even help users more promptly gather the key data needed to make business decisions.

The Cognos 8 Go Search engine, exposed last spring, could be used to find BI data housed in reports, scorecards and dashboards, company stated. A new interface in the Cognos tool would allow both search engines to be used to conduct a single search.
