Gmail down – Cannot access Gmail now

This is the 2nd time Gmail is down in the past 15 days. I cannot access gmail now and even my friends in India and USA cannot access gmail. I am surprised because gmail is the No.1 email provider now and i wonder why Google is not taking this serious.

It has been down now for more than 10 minutes which is a big surprise. Seeing the millions of users around the world i am surprised how much work and email time they loose. I hope Google fixes this soon. Is this some sort of ddos attack on Google?

Toronto based scammers sending fake SEO service invoice

This scam has been there for a while. A group of scammers based in Toronto, Canada are / were sending fake invoices in the name of some reputable search engine optimization companies. Apart from sending fake invoices they also send fake notices for non existent SEO services. They send out saying that they will get you listed in all search engines for a low price. This scam has been there for a while and even ftc.gov has taken action against it.

According to the FTC, since 2004, Toronto-based Internet Listing Service has been sending fake invoices to small businesses and others, listing the existing domain name of the consumer’s Web site or a slight variation on the domain name, such as substituting “.org” for “.com.” The invoice appears to come from the businesses’ existing domain name registrar and contains terms such as “WEBSITE ADDRESS LISTING” and “ANNUAL WEBSITE SEARCH ENGINE LISTING.” The invoice also claims to include a search engine optimization service. Most consumers who receive the “invoices” are led to believe that the defendants are their current domain name registrar and that they must pay them to maintain their registrations of domain names. Other consumers are induced to pay based on defendants’ claims that their “Search Optimization” service will “direct mass traffic” to their sites and that their “proven search engine listing service” will result in “a substantial increase in traffic.”
The FTC’s complaint charged that most consumers who paid the defendants’ invoices do not receive any domain name registration services and that the “search optimization” service is ineffective and does not result in increased traffic to the consumers’ Web sites.
The FTC charged that the “invoices” represented that the defendants had a preexisting business relationship with the consumer. The “invoices” also represented that consumers owed money for the continued registration of their Web site names and that the defendants would provide continued registration services for consumers. The defendants also claimed that the “search optimization” service would substantially increase traffic to consumers’ Internet Web sites. The FTC alleged all that of these claims were false and violated federal law.

There are scam in search engine optimization everywhere we just need to be more aware.

SEOBABA.com Jokers PR-inside cannot be so ignorant

The stupid Seobaba.com guys sending out a press release in our company name. They don’t even know to edit the name of the company. Check here pr-inside.com/seo-sem-ppc-company-india-usa-uk-canada-r1430835.htm . Why are some of these indian SEO companies becoming a joke.

Just one question to these guys grow up. Copy past is not the way to develop in your Business. The most stupid thing ( SEObaba.com ) they can ever do is copy content and send it out for press release. Worst joke is Pr-inside.com don’t even check these. They are just jokers who need to learn the way internet works.

Caffeine update – upcoming Caffeine update in Google updated my Matt cutts

Mattcutts Google’s web spam head recently revealed in his blog mattcutts.com/blog/ that Google is about to make an update to their index. He named it as Caffeine update. This caffeine update seem to be an upgrade to the way Google indexes site. Not many visible changes to ranks i virtually see zero movement across our sites and our client sites.

He tells us to check Google ranking changes in this datacenter http://www2.sandbox.google.com/ . Only big visible change i see here is the wonderful update timings of sites. Almost all results show updated in few minutes or few hours which is amazing.
But one funny thing i noticed which i searched for “Google blog” i got this funny result with site links.

We usually see the notice “this site may harm your computer” when there is a virus alert and the site is infectious. Here a sitelink for Google blog looks very similar to a virus injection warning. 🙂 thats funny i hope Google realizes that fast or they might loose some people who are afraid to click a link that says a look alike warning like that.

New SEO scam or is it phishing ?

I recently came across these type of emails in number of sites we monitor. These mails seems to come from the same group of people. What are they trying to achieve?

Its very sad few people like them bring bad name to this company calling their strategies white hat.

2 Non US government Pagerank 10 sites

As you might are already aware of we maintain only updated and comprehensive PageRank 10 list in internet today. PageRank is one of the important and most popular crazy among webmasters. Recently we scanned all country level government sites for any new PageRank 10 sites.

We found 1 that is already not in list ( http://english.gov.cn/ ) Chinese government website. After a lot of research we found only 2 country government sites that are Pagerank 10 apart from US government website ( USA.gov ) . They are english.gov.cn and india.gov.in . I wonder how from so many countries only 2 government websites have PageRank 10. Does it signifies something i cannot guess 🙂

In the search results, Google often display a snippet appropriate to the specific search query – often disregarding the meta description. Is Google doing away with meta description use like they did with meta keywords?

Alright let me lay a little bit schooling on you so it actually turns that we use to not use meta description at all we would only use the snippet appropriate to the search query and only in recent years if you have a meta description we choose to use it over the little snippet from the page so its moving the other direction from using snippets from only within the page we are now likely to use meta description from the page. But we don’t use it all the time if we think its useful for the query dont make the same meta description on every single page like a cookie cutter then we know its not a very useful meta description. So not that we are doing away with meta description we are using more than what we did 7 or 8 years ago. But at the same time we need to decide that its useful before we use meta description. Best is to use a more useful meta description so you are more likely to see that than the snippet from the page. But if you dont want to bother its completely fine we are just trying to do whatever is best for users and hopefully users will click through and find your content.

Don’t go hate of twitter and make people bust heads twitter has many many great users and its great for breaking real time sort of news its fantastic for asking your friends and Google on the other hand we try to really give reliable reputable information so if you sort it by data twitter is fantastic or if you want to ask a question that has been there for a while then Google is great for that and try both for different situations if you don’t have as many friends then you might not be able to get the answer for the question that you want it answered and i wouldn’t be surprised if spammers actually see traffic on traffic as whoa. Because if you only sort it by date then any news that spammers post will come onto that so they are different they are different for different things i would say do what ever works best for you.
